Introduction to the SICO
New business opportunities created by the knowledge of universities
The Shikoku Innovative and Collaborative Organization for Industry, Academia and Government (SICO) was launched as a part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's National University Reform and Enhancement Promotion Project in October 2013.
The five national universities in Shikoku (Tokushima University, Naruto University of Education, Kagawa University, Ehime University and Kochi University) have sophisticated intellectual properties and technologies. This is a treasure trove of the "seeds of industry" that can turn into major business opportunities depending on how they are utilized. However, universities are only research and education institutions, so they do not have an environment in which it is possible for them to develop business with these seeds.
This has led to the creation of the SICO.
The five national universities in the Shikoku region will carry out activities involving collaboration between industry, academia and government beyond the framework of universities to create further seeds of business. Moreover, we are aiming to utilize the intellectual properties of universities to stimulate research activities and the regional community by creating new business through connecting universities to companies that are looking for new technology and research results.
Currently, we have associates in each university and are taking inquiries on technology and business. Please feel free to contact us even if the technology necessary for your business has not yet been envisioned in concrete terms.
Let's discuss together about whether it will be possible to use the technologies of universities!

Overview of Shikoku TLO
Techno Network Shikoku Co., Ltd. (Shikoku TLO) was established on February 15, 2015 through the efforts of volunteers from the teachers in Tokushima University, Kagawa University, Ehime University, Kochi University and Kochi University of Technology. Shikoku TLO was established in order to revitalize society and industry in the Shikoku region through intellectual property created by universities. With the basic philosophy of "grow together, develop together," Shikoku TLO carries out a wide range of activities not limited to the technology transfer (e.g. patents) of the universities and technical colleges in Shikoku. These include supporting the R&D of companies and the exchange of technologies and business between firms. This is made possible with the full cooperation of the national government, prefectural government and private institutions. The aim is to provide a one-stop service of technological development in the Shikoku region.
Collaboration with the SICO
The SICO is working on integration with Shikoku TLO and centralization of business. The purpose of this is to even more efficiently operate the business of the industry and academia collaboration/technology transfer departments in each of the five national universities in Shikoku (Tokushima University, Naruto University of Education, Kagawa University, Ehime University and Kochi University).
